Enabling the mission of Idaho National Laboratory.

Our board of directors of former INL researchers, industry partners, and experts work directly with the community to promote funding for some of the INL's most innovative advancements.

The Foundation's Purpose

Idaho National Laboratory Foundation is a nonprofit organization designed to bridge the gap between INL and its donors to advance the lab’s energy research, development and innovations that enhance the nation’s leadership in the energy industry.

The Foundation also supports technology incubation to improve testing and transferring technologies to the market, and STEM education by sponsoring the workforce development model to encourage continued interest in STEM careers.

INL Foundation's Impact

INL Foundation makes contributing to STEM and research easy.  Our goal is to help find funding for research at the INL or investments in future INL workers.  The INL Foundation is not part of the National Lab, but seeks to support the lab’s mission through:

  • Tax Benefits: Funding for research or projects can be tax deductible for industry/donors.
  • Charitable Giving: Individuals and businesses can make charitable donations to enhance STEM investments, research or other projects.
  • Simplified Partnering: The Foundation can make obtaining INL research easier through simplified agreements, project oversight, and other mechanisms that the INL can’t offer.  Additionally, the INL Foundation can function as a data controller so that competitors can team for research without risking sharing confidential information with each other.
  • Risk Reduction: The Foundation provides research and project risk reduction and liability protection for partners by the Foundation accepting ACT/CRADA/SPP (government contracts) liability terms. It also allows for more flexible terms with the private sector.
  • Small Investments: Donations of any size can be made.  Additionally, the INL Foundation can take care of the government contracting requirements, so that small businesses can get research done by INL without having to create a government contracting program.
  • Creating a INL community: The Foundation connects people that have or have had an affiliation to the work at the INL.
